Johnny Petraglia was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 3, 1947, and currently lives in Jackson, New Jersey. He is most known for being a left-handed bowler who won 14 tour championships with the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He’s also won eight championships on the Senior PBA Tour. He has been inducted into the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Petraglia joined the PBA in 1965 and won his first tour championship at the age of 19 in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1966. Petraglia departed the PBA Tour a week later to join the US Army during the Vietnam War. From 1967 to 1968, he worked as an Army Spec 5 at Long Binh and Bien Hoa. In 1971, he had his finest season as a pro, winning five championships in total. In the last three events of the season, he won consecutively, culminating in a major victory at the Firestone Tournament of Champions. Petraglia would go on to win two more majors, the 1977 BPAA U.S. Open and the 1980 PBA National Championship, making him one of just six players in PBA history to capture the “Triple Crown” in their careers. (The others are Billy Hardwick, Mike Aulby, Pete Weber, Norm Duke, and Chris Barnes.) Petraglia rolled four consecutive strikes in the 9th and 10th frames to win the victory in the 1980 event, making it one of the most dramatic final matches in major tournament history.
