Reported first by Page Six, R. Kelly is supposedly being held in solitary confinement right now as he awaits his trial for criminal sexual abuse. Attorneys for the former R&B legend filed an emergency motion to have him released from solitary confinement.
In the motion, the singer’s lawyers stated Kelly has no interaction with other humans, limited communications with the outside world, and he’s also only allowed to have three showers per week.
His lawyers claim that Kelly has been “unfairly targeted” on account of his status as a famous performer. At the moment, authorities are holding Kelly at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Chicago, Illinois, for charges of child pornography as well as sexual abuse.

The Bureau of Prisons determined that Mr. Kelly wasn’t safe in the general population due to his obvious visibility among other inmates. His lawyers allege that Kelly was moved out of the general population and into solitary confinement.
However, they claim the BOP could’ve moved him to another area of the prison outside of the general population, but instead, they put him on the “most restrictive floor.” In the motion, they added that the “Bounce” singer’s constitutionally granted rights are being violated.
Moreover, his attorneys claim Kelly isn’t allowed any recreation time, fresh air, or the “day room,” where prisoners are permitted to watch television.
As it was previously reported, Kelly came under fire again following the popularity of the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly, which revealed years of abuse perpetrated by the artist and his inner circle.
After a massive outcry from the public, authorities began to investigate, and reports indicated that many of his former friends, acquaintances, and associates, began to offer up multiple videotapes of the singer having sex with underaged girls, some of them as young as 14.
